The most beautiful English version of the Bible remains the King James or Authorised Version
of 1611, which you can read and search online at one of dozens of sites. None of these sites, as far as I can tell, lay the text out with the elegance demanded by the language itself; so you may like to read it as set out by this parish in the St Mary's Bible, with the irritating text numbers made invisible and paragraphing added where necessary. For most of Christian history, the Bible has meant the Latin or Vulgate version. Even if you don’t know any Latin, it’s worth looking at your favorite passages and reading them aloud, to hear what a magnificent sound the Latin Bible makes. If you want to look any other translations (but why? why?), try the stylish site called Bible Gateway; the best study aid I know is the Scripture Index.
